If you were a member of a hospital ethics committee, what do you feel the purpose of the committee should be? What do you feel is the most important aspect of your role? What is the least important aspect of your role?
Take a moment to consider some ethical concerns with deeming a patient as incompetent. Now imagine that the patient who is being evaluated at your facility is a family member. How would your ethical concerns be affected in determining his or her competence? Would your ethical concerns differ if the patient were a stranger? Why, or why not?
The approaching influx of retiring Baby Boomers and changing healthcare policies will likely present challenges for long-term healthcare services. If you were an administrator of a long-term healthcare facility, and your own family members would soon be needing long-term care, what would be your greatest concerns, and how would you prepare for those challenges?
Some healthcare professionals argue that some of the new and emerging technologies could potentially corrupt ethical principles. In contrast, advocates of technology are merely trying to meet increased quality and regulatory requirements by using new technology to help improve processes. Explain your position on health technology, and justify why you would advocate your position.
