 PROMPT: Both Edmund Spenser and John Milton lived in the context of violent conflict. Spenser faced Irish rebellion throughout his adult life, and Milton experienced more than a decade of civil war in England. How do their writings reflect these experiences of violent conflict? How does religion then relate to that violence? What do each of their religious characters represent in the Early Modern context.
