The Eight Amendment provides protection from cruel and unusual punishment. Although overcrowding is one of the most common problems in U.S. prisons and jails, it is not considered unconstitutional on its own, Read: Rhodes v. Chapman, 452 U.S. 337 (1981); C.H. v. Sullivan, 920 F.2d 483 (8th Cir. 1990).
