Option 1:  How does the mise-en-scene in Sophia Coppola's Lost in Translation reflect the state of mind of a character or characters in the film?  In your analysis, write about three specific scenes from the film, focusing on both the design and the composition. These terms are discussed in detail in Chapter 5 of Looking at Movies.  Be as precise as possible.

 

Option 2:  How does the cinematography in Carol Reed's The Third Man  reflect the state of mind of a character or characters in the film?  Use three specific scenes from the film, focusing on camera angles, shot types, camera movement and/or lighting. These terms are discussed in detail in Chapter 6 of Looking at Movies.  Be as precise as possible.
