Week 4 Assignment: Goal Setting
Part 1
My long-term career goal is to be a data analyst. I hope to one day provide a hand to businesses by using my skills in statistical analysis and numerical comparison to evaluate and contrast operations. Working with data is fascinating to me, as is the pursuit of insights and the implementation of data-driven choices. Mentors who are currently employed as data analysts, online learning platforms offering data analysis courses, industry associations or networking groups, and businesses and professionals in the field of data analytics are all resources that can help me reach my career goal (Harris, 2021). As a result, I'll be well on my way to becoming a data analyst, my career goal.
a.
Indeed.com has listed that The Cigna Group is looking to hire a data analyst. The job description link is https://www.indeed.com/jobs?l=&q=data+analyst&from=career&vjk=c32d5cc03bfbb6e7.
They say, “This position is to support and maintain various processes of the Coding Operations team, perform vendor reconciliations, and maintain and report enterprise and market related dashboards and reports. The resource will work with the Lead Data Analyst overseeing the Comprehensive Medical Chart Review (CMCR) project and be an integral part of the Risk Adjustment team.”
b.
First, I'm focused on finishing my Master's Degree in Computer Science. In addition, I intend to educate myself with statistical analysis, data visualization, data manipulation, and data mining by enrolling in online data analysis learning programs. In addition, I plan to get some practical experience using what I've learned about data analysis by looking for internships, projects, or volunteer roles where I can work with data and learn about the field firsthand. I plan to become active in the data analytics community by engaging in local meetups, joining relevant online discussion groups, and going to conferences (Muzio, 2010). Lastly, I will compile a portfolio of my data analysis projects, detailing my experience, methods, and findings to help me in acquiring the position.
c.
My target deadline for landing a data analyst career is no more than 8 months after I graduate. Since I have also been studying through various online learning programs and other sources, I think I will be able to achieve my goal sooner.
Part 2
My ultimate goal in my career is to make significant impact in the data sector by assuming the role of professional chief data officer. To get there, I plan to leverage my aspirational career as a data analyst by honing my analytical abilities and picking up the supplementary skills necessary for the job. I will work with interdisciplinary groups to develop data strategies, create governance frameworks, and propel an analytical mindset throughout the company.
a.
LinkedIn have listed that a company called Mars Wrigley is looking for a chief data officer. The job description link is https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/chief-data-officer-jobs?currentJobId=3634604022&position=1&pageNum=0
b.
I will do the following duties in this role:
i. Develop, implement, and manage a long-term data strategy, data road map, and key data KPIs for the enterprise.
ii. Drive and enable the scalable data and platform capabilities at the organization's core that contribute to its adaptability.
iii. Give the data and analytics teams the tools they need to regulate and standardize the data assets, and to collect data with high signal value strategically.
c.
Roughly ten years after I graduate is when I plan attain my professional development as a chief data officer. My interest in data industry keeps me motivated to attain my ultimate career goal (Smith, 2013). Once I become a data analyst, I plan to go slowly but surely toward my ultimate objective so that I may be there on time, if not sooner.

Part 1
As I go through my list of family, friends, and coworkers, I see that certain people are constantly helpful, while others have a negative effect on my time at work. The sooner I recognize these dynamics, the sooner I can take charge of my well-being and career advancement.
Parents
1. Mark Henry +
2. Lisa Henry +
Siblings
1. Fiona Henry +
2. Grace Henry ?
3. Caleb Henry ?
Cousins
1. Caroline Morris ?
2. Hannah Jack ?
3. Isaac Frank -
My parents, Mark and Lisa, are wonderful people who encourage me and help me grow. I can't say how much of an impact Grace and Caleb have had on my life, but I am confident that Fiona has greatly influenced my personal and professional endeavors. She has always been supportive, reminding me that I can accomplish everything I set my mind. I intend to make a concerted effort to comprehend Grace and Caleb's influence on me. To the same extent, I need to spend more time with my cousins Caroline and Hannah to assess the impact they have had on me. Despite my repeated refusal to go out with Isaac, he persists in asking me. Because he is a toxic influence and adds nothing positive to my life, I have decided to spend less time with him.
Friends
1. Alex Manuel ?
2. Brooke Kennedy +
3. Cameron Isaac ?
4. Dylan Heaven -
5. Emily Lucian +
6. Gabriel Kayla ?
7. Harper Adrian?
8. Isaac Dylan +
9. Jasmine Miles -
10. Kyle Milan ?
11. Lily Benjamin +
12. Mason Keyus ?
13. Natalie Michael-
14. Owen Miles+
15. Penelope Lucas +
Friendship is a precious commodity, but it's even more important to populate our lives with people who enrich us. After much introspection, I've realized that some of my close friends exhibit poisonous personality qualities impeding my growth. Dylan, Jasmine, and Natalie are always down on everyone else and critical of themselves. Keeping a cheerful attitude around Dylan is exhausting because of his negative outlook and frequent criticism. Dealing with them saps my strength and makes it difficult to have a good outlook; hence I will reduce my time with them (Artstein et al., 2017). On the other hand, I have found some truly amazing people who never fail to motivate, uplift, and strengthen me. Brooke, Emily, Isaac, Lily, Owen, and Penelope personify positive energy, solidarity, and genuine concern. As the bedrock of a positive and encouraging social network, I will give these friendships my undivided attention. By keeping this promise, I am taking charge of my relationships and making an investment in my well-being and growth.
Colleagues
1. Ava Russell ?
2. Benjamin Grewal+
3. Chloe Hillary -
4. David Godwin +
5. Emma Stokes ?
6. Finn Davison ?
7. Grace Jones +
8. Henry Ethan ?
9. Isabelle Liam +
10. Jack Goodwill -
I don't know how much of an influence Ava, Emma, Finn, and Henry have had on me, but I know for sure that Benjamin, David, Grace, and Isabelle have greatly impacted my development as their colleague. Their leadership qualities are frequently displayed and provide invaluable assistance and direction. Emma is always upbeat and cheerful, even in the face of adversity. Since they help me advance in my career, I want to devote more time to interacting with them. Chloe, on the other hand, is always spreading gloom and complaining about something at the office. Her continual negativity and criticism poison the work environment, lowering production and morale (Grewal, 2018). Jack has a bad habit of putting down other people and their efforts without giving them a fair hearing. Limiting my time with Chloe and Jack will help me concentrate on my work and have a good outlook.

Week 4 Topic and Assignment: Goal Setting
Welcome to Week 4: At the end of this week, students will be able to:
• Describe types of goals
• Explain future career goals
• Critically analyze and apply the 5 steps process for setting and achieving goals
I. Topic: Goal Setting (Smith, 2013).
1. “Goals serve as road maps. They give us a long-term vision and short-term motivation.
• They focus our acquisition of knowledge and help us to organize our time and resources.
• Goals are the plans detailing how to get from point A to point B in a logical sequence.”
2. “Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your future, motivating yourself, and turning your vision of the future into reality.
• The process of setting goals helps us choose where we want to go in life.
• By knowing precisely what we want to achieve, we know where … to concentrate our efforts.
• We’ll also quickly spot the distractions that would otherwise detract us from our course.
• More than this, properly set goals can be incredibly motivating. As we get into the habit of setting and achieving goals, we will find that our self-confidence builds immensely from recognizing our own ability and competence.”
2 KG689 Graduate Internship Preparation Lesson Plan: Week 4 Dr. D. Tennyson, DBA
Week 4 Topic and Assignment: Goal Setting
A. Introduction/Lecture Notes (Harris, 2021):
Read and familiarize yourself with this 5-step Process for setting and achieving your career goals as you prepare this week’s assignments:
1. Set the goal
2. Write down the why behind the want (Why do you want to achieve this goal?)
3. Identify the obstacles you will have to overcome to achieve these goals
4. Identify the people and organizations who can help
5. Assign specific dates to achieve your goals
B. Goal Setting Using SMART Goals (Odom, 2019).
To make sure your goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:
1. Specific: When working through your goal, consider the five "W's"; who, what,
where, when and why.
• Who is involved? • What do I want to accomplish? • Where do I want to accomplish it? • When (time frame)? Which requirements and constraints exist? • Why do I want to accomplish this goal (purpose/benefits)?
2. Measurable: It's important to have measurable goals, so that you can track
your progress and stay motivated. Assessing progress helps you to stay focused, meet your deadlines, and feel the excitement of getting closer to achieving your goal. A measurable goal should address questions such as:
• How much? • How many? • How will I know when it is accomplished?
3. Attainable: Your goal also needs to be realistic and achievable to be
successful. In other words, it should stretch your abilities but remain possible. When you set an attainable goal, you may be able to identify previously overlooked opportunities or resources that can bring you closer to it. An attainable goal will usually answer questions such as:
• How can I accomplish this goal? • How realistic is the goal, based on other constraints, such as financial
factors?0001
4. Realistic: This step is about ensuring that your goal matters to you, and that it
also aligns with other goals. We all need support and assistance in achieving our goals, but it's important to retain control over them. So, make sure that your plans drive everyone forward, but that you're still responsible for achieving your own goal. A realistic goal can answer "yes" to these questions:
• Does this seem worthwhile?
3 KG689 Graduate Internship Preparation Lesson Plan: Week 4 Dr. D. Tennyson, DBA
Week 4 Topic and Assignment: Goal Setting
• Is this the right time? • Does this match our other efforts/needs? • Am I the right person to reach this goal? • Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?
5. Timely: Every goal needs a target date, so that you have a deadline to focus on and something to work toward. This part of the SMART goal criteria helps to prevent everyday tasks from taking priority over your longer-term goals. A time- bound goal will usually answer these questions:
• When? • What can I do six months from now? • What can I do six weeks from now? • What can I do today?
