INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

On January 10th, 2019, popular elections in Venezuela resulted in the re-election of Nicolás Maduro as president of the country. This sparked a wave of protests by the Venezuelan opposition as well as a majority of the international community, who denounced electoral fraud and demand the deposition of Maduro for this and many other abuses by the Executive power over the Judicial and Legislative branches. In the United States, President Trump has summoned two advisors to inform him on what to do next regarding this problem. One of them is a card-carrying Realist, and the other is a well-known member of the Constructivist school in IR.

In your essay, provide a comparison of both theoretical positions in relation to the Venezuelan case. For example: What would each of the advisors recommend the Trump administration to do, and why? In your answer, please identify similarities and differences regarding their possible recommendations.
