To prepare:

· Review the Learning Resources on internal factor evaluation.

· Review the Learning Resource on organizational mission and performance.

· Closely examine the Internal SWOT analysis you completed last week, as you will use the strengths and weaknesses you identified in your internal SWOT analysis to develop an internal factor evaluation. Like the external factor evaluation, you completed in the previous module, an internal factor evaluation can help HSO leaders identify priority issues as they consider organizational strategy. Review any feedback your Instructor provided and make corrections to your internal SWOT as needed.

· Review your list of strengths and weaknesses, and then consider which of them have the largest impact on a healthcare organization’s ability to successfully compete within the industry. In addition, consider the relative significance of each strength and weakness for your selected HSO. Like the external factor evaluation you developed in the previous module, your Internal Evaluation will convert each strength and weakness into a numeric score that reflects the magnitude of each item’s importance.

· The accuracy of your analysis is dependent on a clear and comprehensive understanding of your HSO and the industry at large. You may need to conduct additional research on your HSO or critical success factors in your HSO’s industry before developing your weights and ratings.

· Chapter 19 of your textbook explains how to create an internal factor evaluation table and provides an example. Be sure to review the textbook guidance closely, and then use the Module 3 Internal Factor Evaluation Template to complete the analysis and associated interpretation questions.
