Instructions:

In 250-300 words, and with at least two references to course material, please answer the following questions thoughtfully.

• Corey presents the differences between systemic and individual approaches to counseling (page 405-406). What could you see as some of the strengths of utilizing a systemic approach? How about some potential shortcomings?
• On p. 435-437 Corey reviews the integration of spirituality and religion in counseling. He says, “It is essential for counselors to be aware of and understand their spiritual or religious attitudes, beliefs, values, and experiences if they expect to facilitate an exploration of these issues with clients.” (p. 436). Explain to what degree you believe that spiritual awareness is necessary for competent counseling.
