Objective: 

The mid-term project provides students with an opportunity to engage in an in-depth exploration of one real-world situation/issue and to analyze it using one sociological perspective/theory: functionalist, conflict, or interactionist.

Through this assignment, students will:

1. Investigate and analyze the chosen topic by situating it within relevant sociological perspectives/theories and frameworks.

2. Develop a comprehensive written analysis that demonstrates mastery of key intellectual arguments and concepts.

3. Critically evaluate competing perspectives, weighing strengths and weaknesses with clarity and precision.

4. Articulate and defend a reasoned sociological position, supported by evidence and scholarly sources.

5. Connect theory to practice by applying sociological concepts to contemporary issues or real-world situations.

Project Requirements:

1. Topic Selection:

• Choose a topic from the course material covered up to Week 7.

2. Research and Analysis:

• Conduct thorough research using course readings, supplementary materials, and credible external sources.

• Analyze the chosen topic, presenting key arguments and counterarguments.

• Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the positions discussed.

3. Structure:

• Introduction:

 Introduce the topic and its significance.

 Present your thesis statement outlining the central argument of your analysis. 

• Body:

 Provide a detailed analysis of the chosen topic.

 Discuss key sociological theories and arguments related to the topic.

 Include at least three distinct arguments or perspectives.

 Use examples and citations to support your analysis.

• Conclusion:

 Summarize the main points discussed.

 Restate your thesis in light of the analysis provided.

 Discuss the broader implications of the topic.

4. Format:

• The assignment should be five (5) pages in length, including title and reference pages.

• Include a title page with your name, course title, instructor’s name, and date.

• Cite all references in APA format. APA format on the “References Page.”
