Impact of Amazon's Information System on the Organization and Users
Amazon's information system (IS) improves corporate processes, operations, and user experience. For the organization, IS helps with inventory management, data analytics, supply chain optimization, and tailored marketing. Amazon uses AI and machine learning to forecast user behavior, manage dynamic pricing, and optimize delivery logistics (Manasa & Jayanthila Devi, 2022). This feature reduces costs, boosts efficiency, and pleases customers.
For users, Amazon's IS makes purchasing easy with its user-friendly website and smartphone app. One-click ordering, tailored suggestions, and Amazon Prime's expedited shipping boost consumer loyalty. Amazon Web Services (AWS) integration also offers safe transactions and data security, boosting client trust. Alexa and other voice-assistance capabilities make Amazon services more accessible and convenient.
Business Processes for Competitive Advantage
Amazon uses business processes in IS to stay competitive by focusing on innovation, customer-centricity, and efficiency. Real-time tracking and data analysis improve operational efficiency, inventory levels, and distribution efficiency (Chen, 2024). Dynamic pricing algorithms adjust product prices based on demand, competitor pricing, and stock levels, ensuring competitive rates. Additionally, Amazon’s IS supports predictive analytics to anticipate customer needs, offering personalized product recommendations.
Three Recommendations for Improving Amazon’s Shopping Experience:
Shopping Journey Resumption: Implement a “Resume Shopping Journey” feature that allows users to revisit entire search sessions, not just individual product pages. This feature would streamline product comparisons and refine user experience.
Enhanced Brand Store Visibility: Improve the visibility of official brand stores with a clearer distinction between third-party sellers and official products. A dedicated tab on the product page could ensure customers confidently identify authentic brands.
User Interface Enhancement – Search Refinement Tool: Add a “Hide Irrelevant Products” toggle on the search results page (see screenshot). This button would allow users to exclude items they have deemed irrelevant, creating a refined and focused search experience.
