Identifying Public Needs

Imagine what you would do in this situation if you were the chief of police for a local police department. At a conference, you just learned about a new communications technology that would greatly assist your officers, and would address a problem the officers have been complaining about for the past couple of years.

In 750-1,000 words, do the following:

• Explain various strategies you can use to get funding to purchase this new technology for the department.
• Describe the implications for police management when identifying the future needs of police and community stakeholders. What do police management have to consider and deal with when identifying future needs?
• Discuss how police management can find a balance between police needs and public needs if those two needs are in conflict.
