Assignment: Concept Map – Part 2: Expansion and Refinement

Objective

In Part 2 of the concept map assignment, you will continue building upon your original map by adding more physiological topics and refining the relationships between them. The goal is to  deepen your understanding of the human body as an interconnected system and to recognize how seemingly separate topics are closely related.

This assignment encourages  critical thinking, integration of new knowledge, and  continuous learning, as you grow your concept map into a dynamic study tool.

Instructions:

Instructions

1. Revisit and Reflect: Begin by reviewing your original concept map. Consider feedback you may have received and areas where connections were unclear, oversimplified, or missing.

2. Add New Topics: Integrate at least  3 new physiological concepts or systems into your map. These may include:

· Endocrine system

· Immune system

· Cellular respiration

· Hormone regulation

· Feedback loops (positive/negative)

· Cardiovascular or renal physiology

3. Strengthen Connections: Reassess how each concept connects. For every new or existing connection, provide  a short explanation or  label to show how the topics influence each other (e.g., “Hormones regulate glucose metabolism”).

4. Visual Clarity: Organize your map so that  major systems or themes are easily identifiable. Consider using:

· Color coding for different systems

· Arrows with labeled directions of influence

· Simple illustrations or symbols to represent key ideas (optional, but encouraged)

5. Show Interdependence: Emphasize  interconnectedness. For example:

· How does the endocrine system impact homeostasis?

· How do respiratory and cardiovascular systems coordinate gas exchange?

· How does the nervous system interact with muscle function and hormone release?

Submission Requirements

· Submit a clear image or PDF of your updated concept map.

· Include a brief reflection (4–6 sentences) answering:

· What did you learn while expanding your map?

· How did making new connections change or deepen your understanding of human physiology?

Reminder: This concept map is a tool to help  you master difficult material and prepare for exams by seeing how the body works as a unified system. Make it useful and meaningful to your learning process.
