Attending Fashion institute of technology has always been a dream of mine since my late teenage years. Getting the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills and apply my creativity and strategic thinking into fashion industries is an honor. Fashion Trade has caught ground over the years however I believe there is room for a disciplined, open minded and creative individual like myself, who is ready and willing to capitalize on the niche in this area. 

. My journey has not been an easy one. While I already knew what I wanted to do, many factors were still holding me back. I did not have enough finances to support me through the entire course. Thus I had to put my dreams on hold and join the military. This was the only legitimate way of gaining benefits that would help lighten my financial burden in the institution while at the same time giving back to the country through service.

Given that I already knew what I wanted to do with my life and that I wanted so badly to study at Fashion Institute of Technology, I worked diligently and tirelessly in the United States Navy in order to get gain honorable discharge from the military. This was the beginning of a journey of a thousand miles. The patience that I accumulated throughout the military just to finally get an opportunity in Fashion Institute of Technology is sufficient evidence of my unwavering passion for fashion and international trade. 

At the moment I am attending Houston community college where I am gaining an associates in business in the fall of 2017. This course and the experience gained therein is just a stepping stone to my teenage dream. Acquiring knowledge in business is essential in laying down the foundations for international trade. I understand clearly that Fashion Institute of Technology is an institution of excellence. This means that a lot of applicants are interested in being part of the community. Due to the limited chances I had to find a way of standing out from the rest. Therefore I quit my job in order to focus 100% effort on the business course at Houston Community College. This decision was made with the intention in improving my GPA and attaining the required academic standards of the institute. Without solidification I wanted to prepare myself for this opportunity for this would be the habit I would possess. 

Further, I am currently taking  six courses this semester these include: ARTS 1301, GEOG 1301, MATH 1325, SOCI 1301, SPCH 1315 & SPCH 1321. All of these courses are a requirement, but are useful to me as a student of fashion and international trade. Given the fact that the institution is focused on yielding all round students. Aside from my academic qualifications I am also a disciplined person. Being in the military I have learned the importance of following instructions to the latter. 

Fashion Trade requires a great mind that is capable of thinking outside the box. Having noted that, I would like to aver that I am quite an open minded and innovative individual. 

For me the most important point is to understand the final product and the layout, the rest is a product of innovation and creativity. This skill has also helped me stick to my goal of joining Fashion Institute of technology no matter how impossible it seemed. Even personally being affected by the Hurricane Harvey I could not allow that to distract me. I believe there is always a solution to a problem and anything is possible. Thank you wholehertedly for this opportunity to share my background.  I can only hope you take me into consideration I have the drive and hunger.  Creatives change the world and I intend to do the same.
