Supply Chain management

Definition:

“Supply Chain Management is the oversight of all the activities that are involved in providing the end user with a good or service.” (Satterlee, 2013, p. 232)

Summary:

            This discussion post about supply chain management observes 3 different articles. These articles all take different views of supply chain management through power, models of management, and the economic importance of supply chain management. All of these articles are scholarly and peer reviewed. Supply chain management has an impact in on every business, no matter what field they pertain to. People in these positions oversee all the parts that come together in order to place a product in the hands of the consumer. These articles state many different points on the study of supply chain management, but these statistics and models stand to be the most important of them all. Many aspects of business could not be completed if it weren’t for supply chain management.

Discussion:

            Power is important when it comes to supply chain management. “In supply chain relationships, it may be used to claim a higher share of the value that is available in the exchange between the two firms (Reimann, Ketchen Jr., 2017, p.2). It sounds greedy, but when it comes to the growth and wealth of one’s company, it is important to stand firm on their shares. There are different theories on how power is applicable to supply chain management that this article covers. The “resource dependent theory,” implies that a firms need to acquire the certain resources that are needed by another party (Reimann, Ketchen Jr., 2017, p. 2). By default, this allocates the power to the party that is in control of the resources. These resources aren’t necessarily the end product themselves that the consumers receive. These resources can also be included as intangibles and physical inputs (Reimann, Ketchen Jr., 2017, p.2  

Supply chain management also takes another form in ecommerce. According to Ying Yu, Xin Wang, Ray Zong, and G.Q. Huang (2017, p. 2264), “there are two types of business models: business to business and business to consumer.” In the form of ecommerce, all transactions are handled through a business website. In comparison to the first article on the discussion, power is still applicable between business to business transactions, because it depends who posses the resources. Of course whomever posses most of the resources, will take a more of a share. Another model that is notable, is the outsourcing model. Yu also states, “The first reason why companies choose outsourcing, is because it can reduce the burden of enterprises in a degree.” (Yu, Wang, Zhong, Huang, 2017, p. 2264). This model of supply chain management allows companies to accelerate the turnover rate by oversupplying in certain markets (Yu, Wang, Zhong 2017, p. 2265). By oversupplying in a market that has an increasing demand, supply chain managers will see more cash flow coming their way. Today, global supply chains are starting to become more dynamic because of the emergence of economies such as Brazil, China, and India (Avittathur, Jayaram, 2016, p.117). The one thing that is found about countries that have taken huge leaps in terms of their economy, is that there is a gap between there cultural and infrastructural issues and the performance in supply chains (Avittathur, Jayaram, 2016, p.117). There economies start to develop faster than they can handle their problems such as space for factories, stores, etc. This is especially true in India and china due to their overpopulation.

Biblical Integration:

Luke 12:15 says, “Then he said to them, “watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist In an abundance of possessions.” This is important and applies to supply chain management as stated earlier, because it is important to not take advantage of other people for a greater self gain. Supply chain management is important because it places products in the hands of the consumers, but people must be careful when it comes to obtaining power. Taking this though into mind when one takes a position of power, will constitute as godly service and will show godly leadership.
