HW
In Kevin Powers’ novel The Yellow Birds, we encounter a figure whose totality is both fragmented, through memory and a non-linear plot, and also whole, presented to the reader as unfiltered thoughts and impressions that we normally cannot access., analyze the difference between the self that Bartle presents to others, and the way he sees himself; what characterizes this difference? Is it more affected by his conception of himself? The ways others see him? Or perhaps a combination of the two? Analyzing interactions or reflections that Bartle has with other characters, trace the outlines of this fragmented, yet whole, identity.
