Horizontal and Vertical Development
Please read In Cold Blood through page 13 (ending "unaware that it would be his last").
Having read about horizontal and vertical development in the True Crime novel, please choose a selection in the first 13 pages and explain why the selection is not simply horizontal (who, what, where, when, why, how--objective), but also displays the vertical characteristics of literature (use of all the literary techniques, emotional responses, interpretations, connections, and significant figurative language--basically, what do you see that is subjective?).
Remember Capote's stated goal was to combine the two.
