We have explored many of the technological changes occurring in law enforcement. These changes have been nothing short of astonishing. It is difficult to imagine that less than 100 years ago, the police did not have telephones, two-way radios, or patrol cars. Only 40 years ago, criminal suspects were printed with black ink on fingerprint cards. It would take months or years for a human eye to match these cards with a fingerprint recovered from a crime scene. Today, a nation-wide electronic fingerprint check takes just a few hours. DNA may soon replace fingerprints and become the most valuable scientific discovery in the history of criminal investigation. And the adoption of officer body cameras may alter the very nature of police/citizen encounters. Of ALL the police technologies you've read about (both current and emerging/future) in this course which police technology most impressed you, surprised you, scared you, or all three?
