Read the following paragraph which compares the human body to a city. This offers a simple way to explain to a nonscientist how the various systems of the body work.

I want you to use the same approach to explain the brain. So ask yourself, if the body is like a city, what is the brain like? Then in 500 words or fewer use this idea to explain several key functions of the brain.

Resemblance of a city and the human body

Our body looks like a big city, and the vessels are like streets through which the city transportation system can supply the citizens. Red blood cells and white blood cells are different kind of trucks which are utilized by different companies to transport food and fuel to the city. There are different companies who employ people to do different jobs. Perfect functioning of any of these large organizations is vital to the survival of the city and its inhabitants. Sometimes the outsiders invade the city and try to take over some of these organizations or its people. These strangers are called virus or bacteria. There is a huge fuel company which provides the citizens with energy just as respiratory system. There is a big food company alongside the fuel company and delivers everything else needed for healthy functioning of the citizens which resemble the cells in body. Both fuel and food before entering the city will pass through different parts like refining companies which act like respiratory and digestive system. There are also waste management companies which regularly remove waste from the city. Most important functions of city’s administrations are to check for flaws in traffic and transportation and any other violation, chaos, disorganization and to generate the appropriate response, just as the brain does in body. The city has the support system in different areas which is called skeletal system and is like the cement. That gives structure to the city and the city’s buildings and walls. The city building protects and supports different organizations or organs, and it also protects the city against enemy attack. Just like when a skull protects the brain against strokes to the head. And the heart acts like traffic police and ensures there is no blockage and difficulties in transportation system.
