In everyday usage, the terms self and personality are sometimes used interchangeably to refer to “who we are.” In the field of psychology, they are related but separate concepts. Personality refers to the ways individuals think, feel, and behave, and especially their patterns in doing so (Funder, 2024). The self consists of the information that we have and know about ourselves—our self-knowledge. Personality traits are one component of this knowledge. Others include where and how we fit in, our self-esteem, and our self-efficacy.

For this week’s Discussion, you again have the opportunity to develop your own Discussion question to ask the class, based on what interests you most about the concept of the self. What you find interesting can’t be right or wrong, but your grade will be based on the degree to which you are able to produce a question that promotes critical thinking.

This activity will guide you in how to write a question for this week’s Discussion post that can generate critical thinking in your colleagues. Review Chapter 14 of your course text and consider a question you could ask your colleagues that promotes critical thinking about some aspect of the self.

Drawing from the information you read about in Chapter 14, develop an original discussion question that promotes critical thinking for your colleagues to respond to.

Your initial post must provide a rationale or background for the question as illustrated in the example provided in Learning Activity—Developing Discussion Questions That Promote Critical Thinking. Put your question in the first line of your post, and put your supporting text below that in your post.

Note: Support your post(s) with evidence from at least one Learning Resource. Be sure to identify what source(s) you used, both in the body of your post(s) and with a reference at the end of your post(s).

Note: You are required to create a thread for your initial discussion post before you will be able to view other colleagues' postings in this forum.

Note: For this Discussion you are required to respond to two colleagues.
