Discussion 3 

The European desire for trade with the East (India, China, Japan, etc.) motivated them to search for alternatives to Islamic dominated trade routes.  This inadvertently lead to the discovery of the New World, the development of the Atlantic Slave Trade, and to radical change in the nations of the Far East.  Discuss ONE of the following topics in detail:

A.  Compare and Contrast Japan in the late 1900s with China's experience during the same period.

B.  Discuss the shifting balances of power and commerce in the Islamic World 1500- 1800.
