History of Managerial Accounting
TOPICS:
The following topics are provided for you to choose from:
1. Activity-Based-Accounting
2. History of Managerial Accounting
3. Process Costing
4. Job Costing
5. Cost/Volume/Profit Analysis
6. Absorption & Variable Costing
7. Capital Budgets
8. Performance Management
9. Cash Flow Analysis
10. Profitability Ratio Analysis
11. Liquidity Ratio Analysis
12. Efficiency Ratio Analysis
13. Solvency Ratio Analysis
14. Centralization versus Decentralization in a Global Industry
Between the beginning of the term and Week 3, you will select one of these topics to cover. You may cover it from a position of arguing for or against a topic, the evolution of a topic, how that topic is used within a industry (you would select a company within an industry to cover), or how to demonstrate the topic. For example:
· Arguing for or against a topic: Question: Is ABC still a value-added exercise?
· The evolution of a topic: The History of Managerial Accounting
· How the topic is used in an industry: The use of liquidity ratio analysis: a comparison between Ford Motor Company and the Automotive Industry in general.
· How to demonstrate the topic: Developing a capital budget for a particular capital asset: Decision-making through capital budget models.
TIMELINE:
Once you have selected the topic and title, submit that into your Week 3 submission. You must receive approval of the topic prior to moving forward.
Between Weeks 3 and 6, you will develop a draft of your project term paper. This should be a working draft that allows me to review and provide feedback of your project.
Between Weeks 6 and 8, you will finalize your project term paper and develop a minimum slide deck (1 cover slide and at least 1 reference slide) on your topic. You will record a 5 minute overview presentation from your final paper.
TERM PAPER REQUIREMENTS:
Term paper will be a minimum of 7 double-spaced pages. There is a separate cover sheet and reference sheet that is not included in the minimum requirements. No Table of Contents is required.
As you have control over the viewpoint of a topic, there is no set template in word that applies to all ways to discuss a topic. However, it must be organized with an Introduction and Conclusion or Summary of your paper. Develop appropriate headers to separate your topical discussions with the paper.
Use Times New Roman, 12-pt. font. Follow APA 7th edition. This will provide you with the appropriate header development, in-text citations, and your reference list.
Sources: You will need to provide a minimum of 5 peer-reviewed sources. You may use your textbook; however, that is not considered one of the 5 sources. You cannot use Wikipedia, Investopedia, Technopedia or online course books or sources (Accountingtools.com). I will not give you credit for these sources. If you have questions, you can refer to Scholar.google.com or the Library for assistance.
