history essay

Students will be responsible for writing one (1) essay paper. The topic will be the choice of the student, but based upon on course content topics. The essay should be 2-3 pages, type-written, single–spaced, with the font size 12, margins 1” on all sides. 

Please add a bibliography to your essay if you refer to any reading or website sources. This is not a research assignment, so please write the paper using mostly your words, thoughts, and opinions. 

Your final essay should include the following elements:

1. Thesis Statement

2. Introductory paragraph

3. Content paragraphs

4. Conclusion

5. Bibliography

Inadequate - 0 to 19 points

Average – 20 to 34 points

Excellent – 35 to 40 points

Ø Essay is missing 2 or more of the above mentioned   elements (Thesis statement, intro paragraph...)

Ø Missing analytical thought

Ø Course resources are not used and missing   citations

Ø Poor composition structure

Ø Numerous errors in grammar & spelling

Ø Essay is less than 2 pages

Ø Essay contains at least 4 or more of the above mentioned   elements (Thesis statement, intro paragraph...)

Ø Some use of analytical and/or critical thinking   skills 

Ø Uses the resources of the course, with proper   citations

Ø Very good composition structure, and few errors   in grammar & spelling

Ø Essay is 2 to 3 pages

Ø Essay is 5 pages or more -too long!

Ø Essay contains all 5 of the above mentioned   elements (Thesis statement, intro paragraph...)

Ø Strong use of analytical and critical thinking   skills

Ø Uses resources of the course with proper   citations.

Ø Excellent composition structure, grammar, &   spelling

Ø Essay is 2 to 3 pages
