Response Assignment Topic I:  Joint Resolutions in Texas

This assignment is 25% of your grade. 

Visit the Texas legislature’s website.  Search for Texas constitutional amendments between the years 1990-2010.  You will need to look under joint resolutions.  Choose one of the amendments and review how it did in its election.  You will need to go to the Secretary of State’s website to view statewide election results.  Write a brief essay describing the amendment and its purpose.  Include pros and cons, demographics, and explain the challenges and/or bias that confronted the amendment process.   

a.  Each group will select and research an amendment/joint resolution  

b. Gather support materials 

2. write a short briefing (approximately 3 pages) listing the pros and cons of the proposed Amendment, including demographics of population for and against the proposed Amendment, explaining the challenges and/or biases that confronted amending the constitution. 

a. Your brief will require TWO sources, in addition to the Texas legislature website. 

b. Each group will present the amendment to the class, with a visual, and a ballot so that each member of the class can vote on the amendment.
