1. What tactics do Pro-Slavery advocates use to justify their point. What tactics  do the Abolitionists use, and how do  these two sides compare? How do these various tactics help each side prove their point?

2. Even though Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth were both former slaves, in what way do their speeches differ? What about the difference in their own backgrounds? (i.e. male versus female, runaway versus legally emancipated) How do you think these difference impact the listener (or reader in this case)? How would their stories impact abolitionists compared to a pro-slavery advocate, or someone who was indifferent?

1. Compare and contrast Lincoln and Davis' first inaugural addresses. What are the similarities and differences? What challenges did each of them face entering their respective precedencies? If you didn't know how the Civil War would turn out, what would you think of the situation based on these two speeches? 

2. America was filled with a plethora of different demographics. How do you think the following people would react to Lincoln and Davis' speeches? A poor white southern farmer, a runaway slave, a norther textile mill owner, an abolitionist. 

3. Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation are considered some of America's greatest speeches, why do you think that is? How do these speeches compare to others you have read this semester?
