History
A thirty point assignment merits more effort, in this case three paragraphs. I'd like you to make a simple choice: there were important people that we didn't talk much about, or talk about at all, when it comes to the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s and early 1970s. The death of Rev. C. T. Vivian tonight reminded me of that. So I'd like you to choose any civil rights activist we didn't get to talk about (in the African-American community, or any of the civil rights icons of the other marginalized communities we touched on: Native Americans, Mexican-Americans, LGBTQ or women). The only qualification is to choose someone who's activism took place in the 1960s and early 1970s at some point. But you CAN talk about the work they did before then (if any), and did afterwards (if any).
Please write about the following
- 1. A little bit about their background (upbringing, education, early life's experiences that may have molded them)
- 2. How they got to be an activist, and some of the activist events they participated in (or perhaps even put together, or led in some way)
- 3. Finally, a concluding paragraph on why this person is an important historical figure that you want me to learn more about.
