Essay I 

Discuss the progressive movement in Tennessee. In your essay discuss who the progressives were, their goals, and what if anything they may have accomplished. Also discuss why prohibition was such a big issue in Tennessee and what effect it may have had on state politics. Remember this is Tennessee history and there should not be much discussion about the national movement.

Essay II

Discuss the Civil Rights Movement in Tennessee from 1935-1968. Focus on how Tennessee would lay the foundation for programs to be carried to states in the lower south. How did the issue of desegregation affect educational facilities, government and politics? How did the movement end, or do you, the student think the movement continues?
