In not less than a 750 word essay (approximately 3 double-spaced pages), you must address some aspect of how the federal government evolved (since the end of the Civil War). You should focus on a policy, a law, or an event that demonstrates your knowledge and understanding of the role of the federal government and how it evolved. In other words, the topic you choose must have changed the way the federal government operates or is perceived.

There are many examples to choose from: Plessy v. Ferguson, FDR’s New Deal, the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, LBJ’s War on Poverty, and Brown v. Board of Education, among others. Please feel free to pick your own topic that you would like to discuss. If you are not sure whether your topic is suitable, please do not hesitate to email me.

Not only are you supposed to discuss the origins of the policy/legislation/event, you also need to discuss the impact they have had upon the federal government.

You need to have a clear thesis statement, draw conclusions, and use evidence. You are encouraged to use graphs, charts, maps, pictures, and videos as your evidence.
