Read Chapter 4 and attached documents: Civilization of the Greeks Part I

Essays (paragraph answers): 

1. Read the selection from Homer's Iliad, (see attachment) describe the values that were important to the early Greeks. 

2. Compare the societies in Athens and Sparta. What was important to each? How did they differ?

3. Read the selection about Socrates (see attachment). Explain why you believe his punishment was just or not. What would happen to a man like Socrates today?
