In the Carolinas and Georgia, there were many battles between Loyalists and Whigs (Patriots), especially early in the conflict. Under Lord Cornwallis, there was an effort to create a Loyalist militia in the South, led by a professional British officer, Lt. Col. Patrick Ferguson. Patriot militia banded together to stop Ferguson. Please explain how he met his end at the Battle of King's Mountain, and what precisely this victory meant to the Americans!
