ASSIGNMENT 4: "The Theory of Aryan Race and India"

   The article above (No. 4:  Romila Thapar's "The Theory of      
   Aryan Race and India: History and Politics" is on a topic that is
   especially relevant today with our preoccupation upon race. 
   The association of the term “Aryan” with race is an
   assumption that was based upon false analyses that led to
   disastrous consequences. Thapar examines the question of
   the Aryan Race Theory arose in Europe and the political
   ideologies that have arisen in contemporary India.
      1)  What evidence was advanced by authors as Gobineau,
           Max Mueller, Jyotiba Phule, and Dayananda Sarasvati,
           and H.S. Olcott?
      2)  Summarize Thapar's remarks about the Indo-
          American school (pp. 16f.)
