- Identify the most recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings regarding sentencing of juveniles, including finding mandatory sentences of life without the possibility of parole as unconstitutional for juvenile offenders. Be sure to include Miller v. Alabama, 467 U.S. 460 (2012), and its effect on the states.
- Discuss recent U.S. Supreme Court cases on sentencing of juveniles. Each team member should conduct research and bring relevant cases to the discussion. There will be relevant state laws and cases interpreting sentencing.
- Describe the cases, with the name, citation, and holding of the court.
- Include research on the future of the juvenile justice system, especially privatization of juvenile services. What areas of juvenile justice are being privatized? What juvenile systems are not as privatized as adult systems?
- Detail your team's recommendations for the future of the juvenile justice system with specific examples and descriptions of procedures. What would the team change with regard to laws, treatment, and corrections?
