Instructions and Hints for Final Exam Questions

Instructions

· The final exam consists of 2 essay questions that are worth  45 points each. 

· Answers to both of these questions are due  on Thursday, May 2. However, students are encouraged to submit their answers sooner rather than later. This allows the instructor time to point out any major errors she sees and allows students time to address them. 

· We do not use ProctorU or any other supervisory software.  This exam is considered "open book" in that the instructor assumes that students will use their notes and other course material to complete the final exam questions. 

· However,  you may only use course material to answer the questions. This includes the instructor lectures (recorded or transcript) and/or the assigned videos, textbook pages, and documents. 

· If students use information from elsewhere (outside websites, textbooks, other people, etc.) their answers will earn a grade of zero. 

· Answers must be the student's own work. All submitted assignments go through a plagiarism checker. If it flags your assignment for copying and pasting from other places or using ChatGPT or other AI technology, your assignment will receive a zero. 

Hints

· These questions ask you to think back about what you've learned so far this semester. The point of these questions for students is to demonstrate to the instructor (me) that you've thought about and understood the course material and historical narrative presented. So, don't assume that I know what you're talking about. Spell it out for me and explain everything fully. 

· To further demonstrate your comprehension of the course, a good answer will address each part of the questions fully and will use specific information and examples from the instructor's lectures and assigned readings and videos.

· Finally,  good answers will use good grammar and spelling. Answers should be written in sentence form. Bullet points are fine, but major sure you use complete sentences next to them.

· Contact the instructor if you have any questions or problems. However, please keep in mind my office hours. If you contact me after my office hours on the day the assignments are due, you may not hear back from me until the next day after the assignments are closed. 

Learning Outcomes 

After completing this module, students will be able to: 

· Demonstrate comprehension of the time periods, major societies, and major figures of Western Civilization from the early Middle Ages through the Age of Exploration (A, B, C, D, E). 

These outcomes correspond with the learning outcomes listed in the master syllabus for Western Civilization I: 

A. Evaluate the impact of early European cultures upon the development of Western Civilization from prehistory through the Protestant Reformation;

B. Evaluate the impact of significant individuals, groups, and institutions upon the course or history;

C. Show the impact of technology development of Western Culture;

D. Illustrate similarities and differences between historical eras;

E. Comprehend ideas and supporting details of college-level reading materials
