FEEDBACK:

Please note that you have failed your initial attempt at Project 3 as your memo failed to provide for References page and you were only able to utilize 2 sources and this fails to meet with expectations with regard to sources.  Additionally, you should strive to provide for a richer overall analysis as your body of the memo was perhaps one page in length but clearly wasn't any greater than that.

Please review your memo and bolster your overall content depth of response (narrative) via greater analysis.  OK .... Thanks!

Writing an Effective Memo

Suggestions for Effectiveness

1. You are encouraged to carefully review the following suggestions for writing the 2- 3 page, double-spaced memo to make sure that you address key project requirements.

2. The memo is research-based and should include use of in-text citations as Culture, Climate and Ethical Decisions topics are discussed.

3. Remember, you have been cast in the role of an internal consultant and asked to make research-based recommendations for the CEO/COO of your organization to consider. In a way you are in the challenging role of “influencing without authority.” Your introduction and conclusion should reflect that role.

a. Use a short introductory paragraph explaining your role as a well-credentialed professional who works for the organization and is assigned the role of researching the organization’s Culture, Climate and Ethical Decision Making. Explain that you are writing to the CEO or COO to consider your research-based findings.

b. Write a short concluding statement encouraging the CEO/COO to fully consider implementing your research-based recommendations. You may also suggest that you are available to provide additional information as needed.

Format

A business memo should include Memo, Date, To, Subject, From. As an option you may want to use your organization’s logo. The memo is not addressed to Kate Lindsay, but to your organization’s COO or senior manager empowered to act on findings. If you do not want to use your organization’s leader’s name, you can just include an appropriate title.

Key Memo Questions to Answer

You are strongly encouraged to review the Project 3 Step 1 Final Deliverable Expectation/Outline/Key Issues & Questions. This document will help you proceed in a logical sequence through the project and ensure you address key issues of the project. These key issues are addressed by the, the answering, with your own words the following questions:

What is organizational culture? How does it relate to my organization? How would I describe the culture of my organization? Does the culture need to be changed? How can that be accomplished? If not, why not?

What is organizational climate? Do people enjoy working here? If so, why? If not, why not? Are our motivation, evaluation, and reward systems perceived as fair and equitable? What effect do such measures have on the climate? Do we do climate surveys? What do they indicate as key concerns? If we do not measure climate, should we? Why or why not? How?

What are our ethics like? Do we employ fair practices? Are we provided clear ethical guidelines? Do we receive ethics training? How do we measure compliance? Do our leaders shape ethical decision making? If so, how? If not, why not? Do we ask employees to do certain things we would not? Have there been any scandals to overcome? If so, how were they dealt with? Are they gone? What steps have been taken to ensure they do not recur? You can also choose to analyze a hypothetical dilemma and explain how the culture and climate are going to influence behaviors.
