The Introduction:

Using the knowledge you have gained through working with the two provided sources and the discussion on why your topic is important, introduce the topic to your readers. Provide your readers with background information and importance and end the paragraph with a thesis/purpose statement that gives the paper’s focus.  

Body Paragraphs 1 and 2 (Summary):

Two paragraphs that summarize the provided sources. Does each start by identifying the source’s author, give the year of publication in parentheses, and then the main point? Does each include the important supporting points from the beginning, middle, and end of your source? Is each one free of your opinions, as well as first- and second- person pronouns (“I,” “me,” “my,” “mine,” “we,” “us,” “our,” “ours,” “you,” and “yours”).   

Body Paragraph 3 (Reflection/Synthesis):

Include a paragraph that synthesizes the points made by your two sources with your experience. Do you briefly tell the reader your synthesized understanding of both of your sources? Do you connect that with your experience in enough detail that the reader understands the connection? 

Does its point sentence (Remember PIE writing?) follow this structure: 

<Author 1> (Year) and <Author 2> (Year) verb (claim, suggest, imply, argue, or similarly strong verb)  <your synthesis of their articles>. My experiences match up with/do not match up with their  noun (claim, suggestion, implication, argument, or similar noun) because <reasoning based on your experience>. 

The Conclusion:

The final paragraph will tell your readers what they should take away from your essay. This paragraph will illustrate the significance of the issue, showing your readers why this topic matters. End with a call to action. In other words, does it end by telling the reader what you recommend.  

Format:

Your template has provided the proper APA format, and hopefully in Assignment 9 – Critical Essay Rough Draft, you have already provided the correct information for both the title and references pages. However, if you have not done so, you can do that here in your final draft. 

Check that your Critical Essay is formatted properly using APA (hint: use the provided template in Canvas). This includes:  

· A title page has all the information needed.  

· APA Formatting is correct (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, indented paragraphs, page numbers).  

· Your References page listing full references for your two provided sources (in alphabetical order, double-spaced, with a hanging indent on the second and each additional line of each source).
