Assignment: The Crusades- Good or Bad?

Instructions 

1. Review the  Lecture 8B Transcript  Download Lecture 8B Transcript

: Communication and the Crusades. Look specifically at pgs. 2-5.

2. Watch the video by Dr. Symes called  "Political, Economic, Social, Religious, and Cultural Effects of the Crusades" (which includes some positive things about the crusades). The video is located on page 285, but you can also  click on this link.Links to an external site.  and scroll down just a tiny bit to find the video. 

3. After reviewing the lecture transcript and video,  answer the questions listed below.

Questions

1. The crusades are a hotly debated topic among historians, with some suggesting that, far from being positive, the crusades were an immoral stain on the history of Western Civilization. With this in mind, do you think that the crusades were generally positive or negative events in history?

· Make sure to state your answer to this question clearly. You must choose one response: either positive or negative (you may not choose both). 

2. Explain your answer fully and  include 2 specific examples/pieces of information from the lecture and/or the video by Dr. Symes to support your answer.

· Do not simply copy statements from my lecture or the video as your examples. If you use information from my lecture, you must either write the information in your own words or you need to quote and then explain how that quote supports your argument that the crusades were positive or negative.

Make sure to address all parts of the question fully. Write your answer in sentence form using good grammar and complete sentences. You may only use information from my lecture or Dr. Symes's video (no assigned reading this week). Using outside information (websites, other textbooks, other people, etc.) will result in a zero for the assignment. Please keep in mind that all answers go through a plagiarism checker.
