1. You are a research assistant working on a project to figure out how much vitamin C is in different commercial juices. You’ll be adding various chemicals to the juices and testing them. Describe at least three lab safety precautions you’ll take to avoid injury and explain why you chose these actions. (10 points)

2. As you’re working with the juices and chemicals, you accidentally knock over one of the beakers containing the chemical solution and splash a little on your hand. This solution is acidic and can be caustic to skin. What should you do first? How would you proceed to clean up this spill? (15 points)

3. You recently attended a family reunion picnic, and shortly after, you heard through the family grapevine that many of the attendees had the “stomach flu” after the picnic. Since you’re taking a nutrition course, you understand that this may be a foodborne illness and are determined to track the source from foods at the picnic.
