Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major preventable cause of hospital mortality and morbidity and is also associated with significant economic burden on the healthcare system. One of the most common reasons for failure to provide appropriate VTE prophylaxis is delayed or lack of VTE risk assessment for the patients on admission."

During this case study, we can see that many a preventable mortality rate is attributed to Venous thromboembolism VTE. The mortality rate does not have to be attributed to such high numbers as there can be adequate screening to avoid such high numbers. The American heart association describes this as a clot that starts at the vein which affects the elderly, obese, and others which have a thickening of blood due to conditions.

Proper screen time during admissions such as underlying questions or exams can lead to a decrease in mortality via allowing for the proper time needed to administer treatment to patients. Additionally, providers should seek out anything that may be a potential risk should a patient be taking any other medications which would thicken their blood and produce VTE.

The knowledge that I have gained throughout this course has helped me to think outside the box when it comes to a health care environment. It has taught me to take a process that is improving daily and try to make it better for the patients that utilize it every day. Utilizing this will improve the overall quality of healthcare provided and ensure patients will be taken care of. Thank you so much for your time and experience in this class and good luck to all the other students as well. Cheers!
