Guide to Music Theory Final Composition Project (25 points)
Due Wednesday, November 8th, 2023
Write a song that matches the below criteria:
● 16 bars long - four 4-measure phrases, using the following Roman numeral harmonies: (5 pts)

The X’s mark free spaces, those measures may be any chords/harmony of your choosing, but they must
include at least one inversion (1 pt) and at least one chord extension (1 pt).
● In a major or minor key (1 pt)
● Grand staff (2 staffs):
○ Top staff: Treble Clef - Melody (1 pt)
○ Bottom staff: Bass Clef - Chords (1 pt)
■ Above the bass clef staff, correct chord symbols. (2 pt)
■ The chords may be in closed or open positions.
■ +1 Extra Credit if the chords are arpeggiated. Be creative!
● Uses the following musical elements correctly:
○ Key and time signature (1 pt)
○ Tempo Marking (1 pt)
○ Correct number of beats per measure (1 pt)
Your first 4-measure phrase will start on a chord tone of the I (or i) chord and end on a note of the V (or V7)
chord. (2 pts)
Your second 4-measure phrase will be a variation of your first phrase, adapted to the the different
harmony. (2 pts)
Your third 4-measure phrase will contrast with the first and second phrases, mostly using notes from your
selected harmonies. (2 pts)
Your fourth 4-measure phrase will conclude your melody and end on the same note on which you started.
(2 pts)
You may use a notation program (recommended) or neatly write out by hand. Your piece must be clearly
legible. (1 pt)
Please give your piece a TITLE and mark your name on the upper right hand corner. (1 pts)
