GROUPS
Group power is pointless without it having something to do. So, when considering any group, remember to assess the target of their influence because different targets will respond to different types of power. There are many different things that can give them capacities to influence, and probably the easiest way to explore this is to understand power. Do you have groups in your organization that have “power”? Analyze why the group is considered powerful. Respond to the questions below.
Tasks:
In a minimum of 200 words, post your responses to the following to the Discussion Area:
- What are the important elements that contribute to the group’s power base?
- Is there a perception among employees in your organization that there is disparity when it comes to the “powerful group” and other work groups?
- What can managers do to minimize the negative reactions or conflicts between groups in case the perception of power disparity exists?
