TRACERY
“A characteristic of tracery in furniture is that
the material—stone, metal, or wood—is relatively

Tracery sections are as delicate as possible to

CONCLUSION
The Gothic period is the tail end of the Middle
Ages and the last period before the Renaissance.
The inspired period of building Gothic cathedrals
lasted some three hundred years.
The church played a central role as a religious,
political, economic, and cultural entity.
Commissions for building and outfitting churches
involved large outlays of cash and resulted in most
of the high-end artwork. Yet the Gothic period saw
the growing importance of royal patronage. Power
was no longer the exclusive purview of monasteries.
Gothic churches involved the input of nobles,
merchants, and artisans.
