Google's Project Oxygen
As most of you know Google is one of the leading technology companies in the world and employs close to 100,000 people.
A few years ago Google decided to look more closely at the concept of management inside their own organization. They had tried the concept of less management (similar to Morningstar that you read about), but that did not work. Today Google employs a much less "top-heavy" structure than most other organizations of similar size.
Project Oxygen was a business project that Google intended to use to train future business leaders. As part of this project, they first had to ask what makes a good manager and what are the key qualities that a good manager possesses.
