Implemented Spring 2013
State University Graduate Research Project
The Graduate Research Project provides each SU graduate student with the experience of identifying a critical need (pedagogical, curricular, etc.) in the student’s emphasis area, developing the project for successful implementation, implementing a portion of the project, and then reporting the results of the implementation.
The graduate research project will span three courses: ED 622/SPED 625: Research in Education, ED 624/SPED 626: Research Project Design, and ED/SPED 627: Research Project Implementation.
In ED 622/SPED 625, the graduate student will select an aspect, problem or issue in the student’s emphasis area which will be developed into a project in later classes. The student will write a literature review using pertinent literature on the selected aspect, problem or issue using APA style formatting. The student will select a project advisor, who is a faculty member at SMSU, to guide the student through the writing and development of the project. The student can also select a committee member with expertise in the student’s project.
In ED 624/SPED 626, the graduate student will write Section 1: Introduction, Section 3: Project Plan, and Section 4: Product under the guidance of the student’s project advisor. The student will develop and implement a component of the project prior to taking ED 627/SPED 627.
In ED 627/SPED 627, the graduate student will finalize Section 4: Product (if needed) and write Section 5: Project Reflection. The final project will be presented to fellow graduate students and the student’s committee.
