This week you will review Mei Po Kwan's research on Muslim Women's Relationship to Place Post 9/11. Hopefully, this article inspires you to apply mapping and GIS to your own research. 

In a short essay (1-2 pages, double spaced):

  1. Reflecting upon this week's reading, discuss what the benefits of using mapping in social science research are? 
  2. Discuss on ethical consideration researchers must make when using mapping in social science research.
  3. While each of you have very unique projects, consider how mapping can be used in your own project
  4. Create a map -or- discuss one of the existing maps in the map gallery using ArcGIS Online
    1. To access ArcGIS Online you will need to create a trial account
      1. Visit:  http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline
      2. Click on "Free 60 Day Trial"
      3. Enter your particulars 
      4. Once your account has been created/confirmed, take a look at the map gallery. Take a look at the existing maps.
      5. Try out the software! Attempt to make a map of your own!
        1. Click on Create Maps
        2. Choose Your Base Map
        3. Add Layers
        4. Explore Styles -- you can change the style of your map
        5. Play with the Pop Ups
        6. Save your Map (you may not be able to share it since it is a free account - take a screen shot or copy and paste it to your essay document, also write a brief description of the map that you made )
