After reading chapter 8 and the article in this week's folder:

"Give 'em a Fighting Chance: The Challenges for Women Offenders Trying to Succeed in the Community"

Please discuss the following ethical dilemma:

Janice is a woman with a 10 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. Janice is a repeat offender who was recently released on parole. She was in prison for grand theft and aggravated assault. She was paroled from prison after 3 years of her 5 year sentence. Six months after her parole from prison, Janice violated her parole by failing to report to her parole officer and shoplifting milk and bread for her children.

• Should she remain in the community or should she return to prison?
• What are the issues for female offenders trying to return to society?
