Fresh Off the boat essay question of standards
Your current essay deals with assessing whether or not standards in an academic classroom make sense. We have read James Baldwin who believes we must acknowledge many different standards and we are reading a book, Fresh off the Boat which is written in a very unorthodox dialect in a classroom. Do you think there is a necessity for a singular standard? Or, should college classrooms be more open to other dialects? You might consider what it is you want out of a class like ENG 100.
Will the acceptance of dialects beyond the standard be helpful to your goals?
