Forum Discussion 5: Suburbia
Forum Discussion 5: Suburbia
Today America is a suburban nation. More people live in “the middle landscape” than in cities or rural areas. What impact does this have on the nation? Think in terms of image, economics, politics, environment or other areas of interest to you.
Here are some ideas you might want to consider.
1--Why did people move to the suburbs? Has the suburban population changed over time?
2. Are there different types of suburbs? If so, what are they? Think, residential suburbs, industrial suburbs, planned suburbs and others.
3. Does the image of the suburbs developed in the 1950s still reflect today’s suburbs? How are the suburbs changing?
4. Do suburbs have a positive image in films, plays, novels, short stories or art?
5. Do you see your future in the suburbs?
