 You have a suspect but not enough evidence to arrest. You have blood evidence, but the suspect will not give a DNA sample. You cannot compel this person to do so because the evidence is not substantial.

• How would you legally obtain the suspect’s DNA?
• Explain the term curtilage.
• Would this include a barn in an open field that is surrounded by a corral-type fence?
• Why is this Fourth Amendment right?
• Does this include photographs from the air and photographs from the sidewalk? Why or why not?

The questions here are intended to get you started, but consider other challenges within each area that should be addressed.

Individual Portion:

•  Each member of the team should research one of the listed topics and make several key recommendations for his or her area.
• Apply your learning in technology coursework and Internet research to make recommendations in each of these areas. Where you do not have sufficient background information from the case study, you may make assumptions as long as they are stated and supported.

Group Portion:

• Discuss how you would combine all of your research into a summary and recommendation for an investigative officer to collect the evidence.
• Your discussion should include solutions for the issues listed.
