Myia post

My topic is Voting right in the subcategory of Women's voting rights and with leads to general women's rights. The two lenses I chose to dive deeper into are the History lens and the Social Science lens. The History lens studies artifacts and past events to reflect, debate, and evaluate the past to create questions that will improve the future. The Social sciences lens studies societal relationships, economics, political science, communications, crime, laws, cultures, etc. all these study leads to the understanding of how society lives and how we can improve these lives.

These two lenses connect well with my topic. My topic is about the history and steps from history that lead to where we are today with women's rights. All the events that happened in history let us learn and grow from what happened to these women in the past. The people stood up for what they wanted and history shows the moments and rallies that were made to change the events that were occurring. The social sciences lens uses the relationships and communication of people to show the changes. This would include how women got together and created a movement to get what they believe they deserved. The lens is also used to learn about the laws that restricted women to things such as being able to vote, own a home, have jobs, etc.

Justin post

topic of choice is Voting Rights. I chose this topic because of it's interesting history and the societal importance of the subject. As a result, the two lenses I will be analyzing are History and Social Sciences. The history is an important aspect of voting rights because it showcases the efforts and the lengths we went through. There are many historical moments that altered the future legislation that allowed equality in voting rights and I would like to shed light to that. Social Science is important to this topic because a portion of humans were suppressed during specific eras. As a result the suppressed groups created organizations and used tactics to flip legislation in their favor. This lens will look at how an era of inequality forced the hand of our society to create positive movements. These two lenses combined paint a picture of the state our society was in, and how it developed historically through societal involvement.

I have noticed a synergy between history and social science. These lenses bring you back in time and show you how society was, what needed to change, and how society achieved that. We can also use these lenses to look at specific legislation laws and see how this directly affected minorities. These lenses cover a wide area on this topic, both equally important to this specific topic. Because these lenses work well together, I will be using them for further analyses.

Discussion Questions

In this assignment, you will describe the view you get when looking at your topic through the two lenses you’ve selected for your project.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  1. Describe the two lenses you have selected for your analysis.
  2. Compare the two lenses in relation to your topic. What are the similarities?
  3. Explain how the two lenses contrast with each other in relation to your topic. What are the differences?
  4. Reflect on the benefits of the research process. Consider the following:
    • What have you gained by looking at your topic through the lenses so far?
    • What might be some of the benefits of further research?
