Identifying Arguments in Visual Media

Pick a movie you have seen. Briefly summarize the plot. What do you think this movie is arguing? What position or action does the movie attempt to persuade the audience to take? Can you identify any specific types of visual arguments? For instance, how do the camera angles, editing, lighting, actors, etc. help to convey the argument?

 You will discuss various problems with language such as ambiguity, equivocation, and vagueness as well as the importance of using words correctly. 

Problems with Language

Consider a situation in your own life where vagueness, ambiguity, equivocation, or loaded language resulted in some type of misunderstanding or confusion. Construct an argument that is two paragraphs at a minimum and explains the misunderstanding, or offers an apology to the person involved. Aim to compose an argument following the organization in the chapter and avoiding the pitfalls of fallacies or errors in reasoning.
