Topic 1: Your Cultural Expressions

Select one item of expression that you keep to preserve or create a cultural tradition, belief, practice, or custom. This could be a physical object, like prominently displaying a work of art from one’s ancestors as a way to maintain a link to that history. This could be a practice, such as Sunday dinner to preserve a family tradition from your childhood. It could also be a new endeavor, such as learning Bhangra Dancing to learn more about the culture of India.

Introduce the cultural expression and explain why it is important for you. Have there been challenges in preserving or creating this expression in your life? What have been the rewards of this expression in your experience and what have you learned from introducing or maintaining this tradition?

 I need an essay consisting of an introduction with thesis, 3 body paragraph, and a conclusion restating the thesis.

America the Story of US: Westward  

For every individual and/or family, there was a reason they were on one, or more than one, of the Overland Trails.  For all of these individuals and families that traversed the Western Overland Trails, there had to be a motivation.  There had to be a reason.  

Question:

Explain the philosophy of manifest destiny.  What were some advantages and disadvantages for settlers going west?  What is your immediate reaction to the Donner Party portion of this video?  Was the opportunity for a possible better life worth risking the security of what was their known life, their known world back east?

NOTE:  This video is approximately 45 minutes in length.  The information relating to your question is roughly between minutes 12 and 28.  It is always good to view the entire video.   

You are expected to give plenty of information such as who, what, when, where, why, and how.  You should give supporting statements that explain these basics.  Your answer should be well thought-out.
